Property fire
This morning we attended a barn fire and sent 4 appliances due to the number of calls, along with the water carrier and the welfare unit. The barn contained 200 bales of hay and straw and crews got to work with 1 main jet on the fire. All animals were evacuated prior to arrival of the fire service.
Update at 1235 - Main jets were increased to 2. Crews used an light portable pump from open water.
Update at 1324 - Incident was scaled back to 2 pumps.
Update at 1546 - Crews damping down with 1 main jet, and cooling the perimeter, allowing the fire to burn out.
Update at 2135 - Relief crews in situ and 1 main jet damping down.
Update at 23:05 - Crews at work with 1 jet and drag forks preventing fire spread. Steady progress being made
Update at 03:21 - Crews at work damping down extremities of fire using a 51mm jet and drag forks.
Update at 06:35 - Relief crew from Taunton now in attendance
Update at 07:53 - Crews dampening down and working with farmer using mechanical telehandler to attempt to withdraw straw into open air
Update at 10:53 - Relief crew from Wellington now in attendance.
Update at 11:56 - Crews continue to work with farmer with removal of content from barn and at work with 1 main jet
Update at 14:41 - Relief crew from Glastonbury now in attendance. Crews now a work with farmer removing straw and hay with telehandler. Crews also at work with 1 hose reel jet cooling material.
Update at 16:55 - Crew still at work with telehandler removing hay from affected barn. 1 covering jet and 1 hose reel jet in use
Update at 19:10 - Rapid progress being made removing straw and utilising hay from a 2nd telehandler. 1 covering jet and 1 hose reel jet in use
Final Update at 19:52 - Contents of barn has been removed from the affected side to open field. 1 light portable pump, 2 main jets, 2 hose reel attack jets, 2 local telehandler and hydrant in use. Incident now handed over to farmer. Believed to be accidental.
