Property fire
Three fire appliances from Buckfastleigh, Ashburton and Ivybridge along with an aerial appliance from Torquay and fire officer attended a workshop on fire in the Rattery area.
On arrival of the first appliance the incident commander requested additional appliances for extra personnel which came from Bovey Tracey and Paignton along with an incident command vehicle from Totnes and additional officer.
A short time later a water bowser from Plympton was also requested.
The fire was in a building consisting of floor 40m long used as a wood joinery and the fire was involving the wood storage area. Crews got to work using two breathing apparatus sets, one hose reel jet, one covering jet and a thermal imaging camera.
A short while later breathing apparatus was increased to 4 and lighting set up. Western Power were also in attendance.
Fire crews continued to dampen down hotspots and strip out isolation. The fire was contained to the wood storage away within the corrugated extension of the building.
All fire crews left the scene before a revisit was completed later in the evening. There was 50% damage by fire, 100% damage to smoke. In total 8 breathing apparatus were used along with 1 thermal imaging camera, 1 hose reel jet, 1 covering jet, 2 positive pressure ventilation fans, small tools and lighting. Fire investigation is underway.
