Property fire
Crews from Glastonbury, Shepton Mallet and Wells were mobilised to a barn fire at Pilton, Shepton Mallet, after calls were received from site and neighbouring properties. On the initial call they confirmed the barn contained 3 tonnes of logs and there was concern for nearby metal containers, storing machinery.
On our arrival crews confirmed the barn was well alight and set to work firefighting, and protecting the nearby machinery, with attack jets, as well as formulating a plan with the owners to start removing the wood stored inside.
This incident is now complete and was brought under control at 09:18hrs. Crews worked well, making good and steady progress to knock the fire out, remove the wood store and prevent the fire from spreading any further. The barn, constructed of metal, sustained 70% fire damage, with crews using 2 attack jets to extinguish, together with a thermal imaging camera throughout the incident to check for hotspots and fire spread. Once the contents were removed, fire extinguished and the scene made safe, duty of care was left with the occupants. There were no casualties and these are the full and final details.
