Property fire
Fire Control received reports of what appeared to be a fire on a balcony of a three story building this evening. On fire engine from our Street station, one from Glastonbury and a third from Somerton were mobilised to the incident.
On arrival crews confirmed a fire on a rear balcony of the building and set to work with four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, one safety jet and one covering jet, a ladder, small tools and a thermal imaging camera.
A further fire engine was requested to be mobilised to the scene and this was sent from our nearby Wells station.
Crews removed cladding from the exterior of the building to expose any hot spots and to ensure checks with thermal imaging cameras were carried out to prevent any further fire spread.
Our incident support vehicle was also requested to attend scene to assist with breathing apparatus replenishment.
Police were called to the scene also at the request of the occupier, due to some information that the fire may have been started deliberately.
A fire investigation officer remains on scene carrying out further investigations with police.
