Agricultural Fire
Fire control received reports of a barn on fire. Two fire appliances from Okehampton and one appliance from Hatherleigh along with a water carrier from Plympton were mobilised. Upon arrival crews requested a further two fire appliances for assistance, these were mobilised from Tavistock along with a command support unit from Totnes.
The fire was in a farm building approx 30m x 10m containing farm machinery and live stock and the building was well alight.
23:09hrs - Crews used two compressed air foam jets, two breathing apparatus, two main jets.
00:43 hrs - Incident being scaled down to two fire appliances and one water carrier.
02:53 - Steady progress being made, damping down hot spots.
07:35 - One main jet in use, all pockets of fire extinguished, reducing to one fire appliance.
Update 16:10 16th November - crews remained on scene until around 09:30 and then a fire investigation officer attended followed by a fire crew from Okehampton at 13:15. The fire crew confirmed all hotspots were extingished and no further revisits were required. The cause was believed accidental.
The building measuring 50m by 30m was 100% damaged by fire and was used as a workshop, storage and housed a small number of livestock. A mini digger within the building was 100% damaged by fire as well as a very small number of livestock unfortunately found deceased. Fire crews used in total 3 main jets, 2 foam jets, 6 breathing apparatus sets, lighting, thermal imaging camera and small tools.
