We have a number of vacancies for full time (37 hours per week) Competent Fire Safety Protection Inspectors. We are looking to employ new and existing members of staff who have the attitude, aptitude, and personal qualities that we need.

This role involves working as part of the Fire Safety Protection Delivery Team across the whole of Devon and Somerset. You will be working with the Responsible Persons at premises to ensure that high risk buildings across Devon and Somerset are safe for residents, workers and visitors. Your role will be to apply the Fire Safety Order 2005 to our Risk Based Inspection Programme. There is also an opportunity for specialist roles within the team which could include; being involved in Hospital Liaison, Legal Action, Heritage Buildings or Fire Engineering.
DSFRS are committed to the development of people and teams. There is potential to be sponsored to study for a Level 5 Diploma or Fire Engineering Degree and also the opportunity of providing out of hours Enforcement Response for additional payment. You will need to be flexible, respond positively to change and be prepared for continuous learning and professional development throughout your career.

Eligibility Criteria:
All applicants will need to meet the following criteria in order to be eligible to apply:
- Demonstrate good communication skills with people representing both internal and external stakeholders.
- Be both self-motivated and able to work independently, visiting premises on your own and able to manage your own workload, whilst being able to work positively as a team member.
- It is essential to be a Competent Fire Safety Auditor and desirable for you to have a current Level 4 Fire Safety Diploma or higher.
- Be able to demonstrate a motivation to drive down the risk of fire in the built environment and protect life and support Fire Safety.
- Hold a full current driving licence at the time of accepting an offer of employment.
Eligibility Criteria for internal applicants.
Internal applicants looking to progress to a Grade 7 post can apply for this role if they are able to demonstrate the following in addition to the above criteria:
- Internal applicants should be in the latter stages of demonstrating competency at Grade 5 or have achieved competency prior to the implementation of the current career grade pathway.

- Experience of, and having carried out, audits of premises of varying complexity including medium complexity (e.g. Large Hotel)
- Experience of liaising with, and consulting with Building Control Bodies or other Enforcing Authorities.
- Resilience when dealing with a challenging and busy workload.
