Vehicle fire
Fire Control received multiple calls to a lorry carrying hay bales on fire and mobilised a pumping appliance from Middlemoor, Exeter and a further pumping appliance and water foam carrier from Danes Castle, Exeter.
On arrival at the incident crews confirmed a fire involving one large goods vehicle trailer containing a quantity of hay bales on fire. The lorry unit with a further quantity of hay bales had been disconnected and pulled forward and was unaffected. Crews were using two breathing apparatus and a compressed air foam line.
Update at 09:52 - Crews requested a Telehandler to attend to assist with moving hay bales
Update at 10:19 Crews using four breathing apparatus, two compressed air foam jets, two triple extension ladders and were preparing the telehandler for use. Two further appliances were requested to assist with breathing apparatus which were mobilised from Crediton and Clyst St George
Update at 11:17 Crews making steady progress using telehandler to unload bales which are being dampened down once removed using compressed air foam and water jets.
Final details at 14:00 One lorry trailer carrying approximately 25 tonnes of hay, 10% of hay damaged by fire, 100% affected by smoke. Hay removed from trailer onto the hard shoulder using telehandler. Crews used four attack jets, one hose reel jet, four breathing apparatus and two triple extension ladders. The cause of the fire was believed to be accidental.
