Road traffic collision
Fire control had a call from police requesting our attendance to a Road Traffic Collision involving a lorry that had overturned on the A361 near to Frome.
Control immediately mobilised fire appliances from Frome, Warminster and Trowbridge, a Heavy Rescue Vehicle and supporting appliance from Glastonbury and a supporting officer.
Upon arrival, crews confirmed 1 lorry rolled over on carriageway and the driver was still trapped. Crews were getting to work assessing driver and organising equipment in preparation to extricate driver.
Update - Crews confirmed one artic bulk lorry involved with driver still within vehicle. Access has been made by removing windscreen allowing ambulance to assess driver.
Update - Due to limited space, ambulance have requested the roof of the lorry is removed for better working space and room for extrication. Crews are now at work with hydraulic rescue equipment to remove roof.
Final update - Crews have now extricated the driver from the lorry on a stretcher and now in the care of the ambulance service. Crews removed the windscreen for access and the roof for full extrication using small tools and hydraulic rescue cutting equipment. The incident will be left in the hands of the police.
