Property fire
Crews from Glastonbury, Street and Somerton were mobilised following multiple calls from members of the public to reports of a caravan on fire in Butleigh nr Street.
On arrival crews confirmed there was in fact 2 caravans were well alight and set to work with hose reels jets and compressed air foam to smother the fire as it was confirmed that gas cylinders were involved also. The fire had also spread to near by trees and hedge rows. Crews soon had the fire under control and confirmed the incident was complete at 1220hrs. In total we had 3 fire engines and a water carrier, (from Bridgwater) with firefighters using 2 attack hose reel jets and foam to extinguish it, followed by a thermal imaging camera to check for hotspots and to monitor the gas cylinders which were being cooled to a safe temperature. Once crews made the scene safe, duty of care was handed over to our fire investigation officers and the Police trying to establish the cause. Unfortunately despite every effort they were unable to determine the cause. The site was left in care of the caravan owners and the Police.
