Property fire
Fire control received a call to a large domestic property fire in Shebbear.
Initially 3 fire engines from Torrington, Hatherleigh and Holsworthy were assigned to the incident.
Whilst on route Fire control increased the response with a further fire engine, aerial platform ladder and a water carrier due to the remote location of the incident.
When crews arrived they confirmed the property to be well alight and immediately requested a further 2 fire engines and a further water carrier due to limited water access.
Crews are currently at work actively fire fighting
Update 6.20am, 5 May 2024
Six pumping appliances attended, water bowers, aerial ladder platform and other specialist appliances.
The large farmhouse was fully involved in fire and was severely damaged and partially collapsed. Crews used breathing apparatus and water jets to extinguish the fire and prevent it spreading to a nearby barn.
A woman was taken to hospital after being treated for smoke inhalation. Accidental cause.
