Property fire
2 fire appliances from Torquay were mobilised to a property on Hele Road in Torquay this morning, after a call from the occupants saying their flat was on fire. Fire Control confirmed that the occupants were safely able to evacuate the property during the 999 call.
Crews were on scene within minutes, with the initial crew confirming that smoke and flames were issuing. Whilst 2 firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property to locate the source of the fire, one casualty who had suffered some smoke inhalation was administered oxygen therapy by personnel outside, awaiting the arrival of Ambulance personnel.
This incident is now complete and was brought under control at 07:37hrs. Crews used hose reel jets, a thermal imaging camera and triple extension ladder to extinguish the fire, which is currently being investigated as to how it started. The flat has sustained 100% damage by fire, heat and smoke, and whilst the casualty with smoke inhalation was conveyed to hospital via land ambulance, there were no other casualties or injuries. Fire investigation is still being carried out but these are the full and final details.
