Property fire
Fire Control received reports of a chimney fire involving a wood burning stove at the above location this evening.
One fire engine from our Frome station were immediately mobilised.
On arrival crews requested the assistance of a second fire engine which was mobilised from our nearby Castle Cary station.
The occupiers were concerned that there had been a malfunction of the wood burning stove and the room where the stove was appeared to be heavily smoke logged.
Crews entered the property wearing breathing apparatus and using a hose reel jet for safety. Crews also requested the attendance of an officer to assist due to concerns of fire spread within the premises.
Crews were able to ascertain that the flue from the stove had moved, causing surrounding materials to catch fire. The fire was quickly extinguished with surrounding flammable materials sustaining 15% fire damage and the room where the stove was located sustained 10% smoke damage.
The cause of the fire was accidental and no persons were hurt as a result of this incident.
