Fire retail
Fire Control received several 999 calls reporting smoke issuing from a chip shop in Bear Street, Barnstaple. Three fire engines and an aerial ladder platform were originally sent. On arrival crews confirmed that there was smoke issuing and possibly people unaccounted for. They also requested another two fire engines as well as a command support unit.
The fire is now out and all persons are accounted for. The fire was involving a commercial cooking range, which then started to spread through the ducting.
The fire was extinguished using the following:
- Breathing apparatus
- Hose reel jets
- Main jets
- Thermal image camera
- Dry powder extinguishers
Crews are still in attendance cooling down hotspots.
Final update 1600 - This was a four storey building. Ground floor used as a chip shop and restaurant. The first and second floors are domestic flats and the fourth floor used for storage. The fire was involving the fat fryers, chimney flue and ducting.
There was 50 per cent fire damage and 100 per cent smoke damage to the front of the shop and 10 per cent smoke damage to the rest of the property.
