Education and young people
The best way to keep our community safe is to reduce risk and prevent fire, road and water emergencies and incidents from happening.
In Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service we do this through education and that begins with our children and young people.
Fire safety intervention
Our Fire Safety Intervention Programme works with children and young people up to the age of 18, who play with or show an unhealthy interest in setting fires. The programme aims to help them understand and control the feelings and circumstances that lead them to set fire and supports positive changes to their behaviour.
Read about our programme (https://www.dsfire.gov.uk/education/fire-starting-behaviour-young-children) and what to do if you are worried about a child that who displays fire-starting behaviour.
Youth groups
Away from a classroom setting, uniformed groups are a great way for children and teenagers to grow their confidence and learn skills that will help them flourish later in life.
