Proposals analysis

How ‘saving’ has been calculated for each category

For A1 commercial and industrial category we have allowed for 4% of these incidents to get through call challenge (as they do currently 0800 – 1800)

For A2 Retail and public assembly category we have allowed for 13% of these incidents to get through call challenge (as they do currently 0800 – 1800) Note, this is higher than the commercial and industrial category.

For A3 based on the Service still attending 25% of incidents currently attended.

Because we are using historic figures to calculate these savings, it is likely that actual savings would not be exactly what is calculated.

To reach the on-call saving figures we have used a cost of £111 per on-call mobilisation.

To reach the wholetime time saving figures we have used an incident duration of 20 mins (which is the average for such incidents).

Currently exceptions to premises types are not taken into account – if more exceptions are included the savings will be reduced.

Busiest AFA stations

More than 100 called to alarm incidents in five years (i.e. >20 per year).

Note all appliances (including specials) from a station so could be more than one attendance at an incident. Some stations will be a mix of wholetime and on-call resources.
