Fire Control received multiple calls to a thatch fire in Torquay.

At the height of the fire, we had 12 appliances, multiple supporting specialist appliances, and officers on the scene. Crews confirmed the building was well alight.

The building was a detached thatch house. We used three main jets, two hose reel jets, ten breathing apparatus, and one compressed air foam lance.

Roads in the area were closed due to the smoke and the many fire vehicles. Local residents were asked to keep doors and windows closed.

Firefighters remained at the scene throughout the night

We have one fire engine and the aerial ladder platform at the scene. Crews are dampening down the area and checking for hot spots.

The fire investigation officer has confirmed the fire was deliberate and we are supporting the police with their investigations.
