Fire crews were called to a report of a barn on fire in the Hatherleigh area.
On arrival the crews confirmed that the barn measured approximately 30m x 15m and contained a large quantity of straw bales. Cattle and pigs who were also in the barn were being released into a nearby field. The farmer assisted crews by using their tractor to remove hay bales from the barn into an open field whilst crews began water relay using a nearby hydrant.
After a few hours of crews using 2 hose reel jets, covering jets, a thermal imaging camera, a positive pressure ventilation fan and a nearby hydrant the fire was brought under control and extinguished. Damage was confined to around 10% of the barn roof and 20 bales of straw.
