Two fire appliances from Taunton and a Fire Officer attended an incident in the Monkton Heathfield area of Taunton after an occupant called stating there was a fire in the property.

The wheelchair bound occupant was unable to get out of the property and was given some advice on how to remain safe in the property whilst crews were kept up to date with details and information on where he was in the property to aid a quick rescue.

On arrival crews confirmed there was a small fire in the grill pan of a cooker within the kitchen in the bungalow measuring 5m by 8m. The occupant was able to exit the property himself after we arrived and the cooker was removed to open air. Two breathing apparatus sets, 1 hose reel jet and 1 safety jet were used as well as a CO2 extinguisher.  A positive pressure ventilation fan was used to ventilate the property to get rid of the remaining smoke. The oven was 100% damaged by smoke and heat but the remainder of the house wasn't damaged.
