Fire control took a call close to midnight to a possible fire in the area of West Anstey Common but was unsure what was involved in fire.

Fire control mobilised 1 appliance from Dulverton to attend and investigate. 

Once on scene crews discovered 2 separate fires on moorland and were making efforts to extinguish using beaters and hose reel jets.

Crews on scene then sent a make up message to control. They requested 2 further appliances, 1 water bowser, 1 4x4 and 1 ATV. These resources came from Bampton, South Molton, Barnstaple and Porlock.

Update at 03:00 - a fire front of burning gorse 800m in length and 2m high was burning and steady progress was being made. On scene crews requested additional 4x4 and ATV which come from Lynton.

Update at 05:00 - a 3 pump relief has been sent to scene. These appliances are attending from Appledore, Witheridge and Wellington. Steady progress is being made. Efforts being made to extinguish fire using ATV, hose reel jet and beaters.

Update at 06:00 - crews at working continuing to extinguish a 1 mile squared area of moorland using ATV's and beaters. A crew are also on route from USAR to attend scene to assist with the use of a drone.

On scene crews are advising anyone in the area South West of West Anstey Common to keep all windows and doors closed due to smoke issuing from the fire.
