Moretonhampstead Fire Station recruitment evening
Firefighters in Moretonhampstead are holding a recruitment evening on Tuesday 22 March for people who are interested in joining the crew to find out more information.
Come along to Moretonhampstead Fire Station, Station Road, TQ13 8SA, at 7pm, to find out about being an on-call firefighter.
This is an opportunity to come and speak to firefighters about the role, try some of the selection tests and to have a look at some of the equipment.
A new pay scheme has been introduced at the station in a bid to attract more on-call firefighters. The station needs more firefighters to ensure it can respond to incidents in the town and surrounding area.
The scheme means firefighters are paid for their availability rather than the number of incidents attended. The scheme is more family-friendly, allowing firefighters to be more flexible around the cover they provide.
Group Manager Dan Searle, of Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, said: “Our team comes from a variety of backgrounds, all with a common interest to support and keep our community safe.
“Firefighters may be called out a couple of times a week for one or two hours during the day, evenings or weekends. You decide the hours when you are available.”
If the town’s fire crew are not available due to a lack of available firefighters, another team may have to come from the next nearest fire station.
