Hazardous materials

Crews from Danes Castle (Exeter), Crediton and North Tawton were initially mobilised, to a domestic property in Newton St Cyres, following a request from the Police for our attendance to a report of a gas explosion. Concerns were raised for the occupants inside at the time with reports of injuries being sustained. 

Within minutes of Danes Castle crew arriving on scene they quickly established that whilst there had been an incident, it was a small explosion involving a gas fire place in the ground floor living room. 2 children sustained minor injuries and were tended to by fire service personnel, awaiting the arrival of the Ambulance service, whilst other firefighters isolated the gas supply and checked for any leakages using a gas monitor. Luckily there was no fire or structural damage and once the scene had been made safe duty of care was left with the occupants and Ambulance service.
