We currently have a large amount of pumping appliances and support vehicles in attendance at a barn fire on Rull Lane, Whimple nr Ottery St Mary. Fire Control received multiple calls from local residents who could see the barn, (which contains wood, farm machinery, gas cylinders and a quantity of stored fuel), well alight. 3 fire appliances from Ottery St Mary, Middlemoor (Exeter) and Honiton, together with a water carrier from Danes Castle (Exeter), were mobilised initially but this attendance was increased at 1406hrs after an assistance message was sent for extra personnel and water. Further assistances messages were received for water, environmental protection, lighting and telehandler to assist with clearing the contents of the barn.

Update 17:30hrs - This incident is still ongoing and likely to be protracted. Crews are making good and steady progress firefighting and preventing the fire from spreading to nearby outbuildings, whilst safely  removing the contents of the barn. Further details will follow when available but for now this is all the information we have...

Update 23:30hrs - This incident is now being scaled back after making steady progress all evening. Crews from Torquay, Chard, Clyst St George, and USAR remain on scene removing wood from the building and damping areas down.
