3 fire appliances and a Heavy Rescue Vehicle, all mobilised from our Exeter stations at Middlemoor and Danes Castle, were sent to the M5 Southbound carriageway between J30 Sandygate and J31 Pearces HIll, after receiving a call from the Police requesting our attendance to a 2 vehicle RTC, where a female casualty was trapped in one of the vehicles.

Shortly after arriving and liaising with the Police, who were carrying out traffic duties, and on scene paramedics who were stabilising the patient, they confirmed the casualty was medically, not physically trapped, and set to work carrying out a roof removal, with hydraulic cutting equipment, in order to safely extricate the casualty into the hands of the paramedics. Once released they were conveyed to hospital via road ambulance whilst crews made the vehicle and scene safe. The incident was brought under control at 1444hrs and duty of care for the incident was left with the Police. These are the full and final details.
