3 fire appliances from Tavistock, Yelverton and Crownhill were mobilised to a property on Market Street in Tavistock after the occupant of one of the flats could smell gas. On arrival of the first crew they gained entry to the first floor flat, which they believed to have the gas leak, and escorted a male occupant from the flat, uninjured, before locating the source of the leak using a gas detection monitor and isolating both the gas and electricity supplies. Fire Control contacted the gas board to attend and an engineer was soon on scene. Duty of care was then left with them continuing their checks and isolating the supply further.
