Fire Control received an emergency call reporting a cow stuck in a slurry pit in the North Tawton area. A fire engine from Chagford and Animal Rescue Team from Exmouth was mobilised.

Below is a timeline of events for this incident:


At 19:05 - Shortly after crews booked in attendance, a request for the telehandler was received and this was mobilised from Clyst St George (Urban Search and Rescue). 
At 19:08 - Farmer's telehandler is in use to keep the cows head above the slurry. Crews are at work with lighting and formulating a plan.
At 19:35 - Request was made for concrete breaking equipment from Urban Search and Rescue.
At 1950 - Vet is now on scene
At 20:11 - Crews at work using strops to secure the cow's head whilst they wait for the arrival of DSFRS telehandler.
At 20:55 - Crews confirm that DSFRS telehandler is now in use holding the cow.
At 21:32 - Concrete breaking equipment is now in use to attempt to make larger hole to remove cow. 
At 22:26 - Crews have successfully rescued the cow from the slurry pit using telehandler, animal rescue strops, hydraulic rescue equipment and concrete breaking equipment. The cow is now in the care of the farmer and the vet.
