2 fire appliances from Wincanton and Gillingham (Dorset & Wiltshire FRS), together with a water carrier from Yeovil, were mobilised following a call from the driver of a tractor, towing a trailer of silage, which had caught fire whilst being driven on the A371 at Brayton Seymour, Wincanton.

This incident is now complete and was brought under control at 1600hrs. The tractor was well alight on our arrival and despite best efforts was destroyed by the fire, which started accidentally. The trailer, containing 8 tonnes of grass to be used as silage, was only 5% damaged by fire. Crews used hose reel jets to extinguish the fire, which also included a running fuel fire and oil (contained using an environmental pack), before making the vehicle and scene safe. Duty of care was left with the farmer awaiting recovery and the Police carrying out traffic management.
