Property fire
Fire Control received calls to reports of a fire involving a building in Paignton.
2 fire engines from Paignton and 1 from Torquay were initially sent to the location.
On arrival, crews confirmed smoke and flames issuing from the roof space of the property and requested further assistance of a 4th fire engine and the aerial ladder platform, which both came from Torquay.
During the early stages of the incident, it was made known to the crews that not all persons were accounted for so the Incident Commander escalated the attendance by another 4 fire engines, which came from Brixham, Newton Abbot, Teignmouth and Totnes, along with specialist appliances from Ivybridge and Buckfastleigh.
This was a fire involving the roof space of a property, which had spread to the property next door. One person was treated on scene by paramedics and then taken to hospital, suffering with smoke inhalation. Gas, electric and water were all isolated to the property.
The fire was extinguished using 6 breathing apparatus wearers, 3 hose reel jets, 4 safety jets, 4 covering jets, aerial ladder platform, positive pressure ventilation fans, gas monitors and thermal imaging cameras.
The initial property sustained approx 50% by fire and smoke and 20% by water. The second property sustained approx 40% fire damage and 20% water.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
