Fire control received a couple of calls to a fire at a recycling centre within Greendale Business Park, Exeter.

Fire control immediately mobilised 3 fire appliances from Middlemoor and Clyst St George, 1 Aerial Ladder Platform from Danes Castle and a supporting officer.

Once on scene crews confirmed efforts were being made to gain entry to the premises due to smoke issuing from the building. Crews were using 2 Breathing Apparatus, 1 Hose Reel Jet and a Thermal Imaging Camera.

Control received an assistance message from the incident ground requesting a further 2 fire appliances. These were both mobilised from Danes Castle. Due to the number of appliances attending, an Incident Command Unit from Honiton a further 2 supporting officers were also sent.

A further assistance message was passed to control requesting the attendance of a water bowser, this was mobilised from Torquay. Shortly after, a second water bowser was required, this was mobilised from Danes Castle fire station.

Update at 02:45 - Breathing Apparatus wearers have been increased to 4 and the incident has been sectorised into 2 sectors.

Update at 03:13 - Fire within building measuring approximately 30m x 40m. Fire involving 12 tonnes of mixed non-hazardous waste and 12 tonnes of cardboard. 4 Breathing Apparatus, 2 Hose Reel Jets, 1 Attack Jet and water bowsers in use. 

Update at 04:30 - steady progress is being made across the incident ground. Crews continue to use 4 breathing apparatus, 1 attack jet, 1 hose reel jet and 2 water bowsers. A request has been sent from the incident ground for local residents and businesses to ensure or doors and windows are kept shut. A relief strategy has been requested for 4 appliances to attend this incident ground for 06:00.

Update at 05:08 - steady progress is being made across the incident ground and operations have temporarily been suspended in one sector whilst plant machinery is used to help gain better access to the building. 

Update at 06:30 - 4 relief appliances from Exmouth, Sidmouth, Crediton and Bovey Tracey are now in place. Specialist officers at the incident have liaised with local businesses downwind of incident to support local business continuity. 

Update at 06:55 - control have received an assistance message from the incident ground requesting the Telehandler from our USAR station.

This incident is still ongoing and further updates will provided in due course.
