Fire Control received an emergency call reporting 5 cows in the water in the Lower Washfield area. Crews from Tiverton and the Technical Rescue Team from Barnstaple was mobilised.

Once in attendance, crew successfully made contact with the owner of the cows and then confirmed that there was 20 cows in the river. Crews formulated a plan and utilised a 4x4 vehicle with transporting personnel and vehicle.
An assistance message was received asking for a second fire engine and the second crew from Tiverton was mobilised.

Crew successfully coaxed the cows out of the water, the farmer also conducted a head count of their sheep and confirmed that all cows were accounted for.
