Property fire
Fire crews from Bridgwater, Street, Cheddar, Shepton Mallet and Wells responded to a call just after 5pm that a barn that was well alight at a farm in Silver Street, Wells. The barn is approx. 23m x 8m containing approximately 15 tonnes of hay and tyres.
Crews are currently at work with one breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet and one covering jet.
Update: Crews are currently at work with two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet, one covering jet and a thermal imaging camera. Crews are making good progress extinguishing hot spots and turning over to reduce the spread of the fire.
The police are now in attendance.
Update: The barn was made of corrugated steel and suffered approximately 40% fire damage to the interior. The fire was extinguished using five breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet, one covering jet, one thermal imaging camera, drag forks and one spike attack jet. Police have now left the scene and the incident has been handed over to the property owner.
The fire was believed to have been started deliberately.
