DSFRS Fire Control received calls reporting smoke visible from the exterior of a five-storey block of flats on Constantine Street, Plymouth. A fire had been reported on the fifth floor/roof of the central block of three. The building was evacuated.

6 Pumping Appliances, 1 Aerial Ladder Platform and 1 Command Support Unit were mobilised to support along with a number of specialist officers.

Upon arrival the crews confirmed that smoke and flames were issuing from the external cladding and insulation at the top floor of the building. They also requested the assistance of another 2 appliances.

Around six metres squared of insulation was damaged by fire. Crews used water jets and tools to cut away the cladding to reach hotspots.

Crews have now extinguished the fire and left scene. No injuries reported. The cause was believed to be accidental.
