Fire safety during building work
Building work can bring additional fire risks onto your premises.
If your premises remain occupied during any building or maintenance works, you will need to consider the impact on your existing fire safety arrangements.
Considerations during building work
If you're carrying out building work, you should review your fire risk assessment and where necessary, put in place temporary safety measures.
Example
If the work removes access to one of your fire exits, you will need to consider the impact and assess whether people can still get out of the building quickly and safely in the event of a fire.
The action you take will be based on the outcome of your assessment. You may need to temporarily update your escape signage and emergency plan to direct people to alternative fire exits. Or, you may need to restrict access to the area until the works are completed.
