Property fire
There are currently 8 fire engines, 2 aerial ladder platforms and supporting appliances and Officers at an incident. The initial call came in as one of the fryers on fire in a shop, however this has escalated as the fire has spread to the flats above the shop. Three people have been rescued from the flats by the Fire Service.
This incident is ongoing, please therefore do avoid the area if you are in Exeter. Updates will be posted throughout the evening.
Update at 2215 hrs. One aerial ladder platform has returned to home station, however all other fire engines, special appliances and officers remain at the incident.
Update at 2320 hrs. Two fire engines remain at the incident along with Officers - all other fire engines have returned home station.
0330 hrs - The final details for this incident are that the fire spread from the ground floor kitchen onto the first floor. Fire damage to the ground floor was reported as 10%, with 30% smoke damage. Fire damage to the first floor was reported as 5%, with 25% smoke damage and fire damage to the second floor reported as 5%, with 5% smoke damage. A total of 3 people were rescued from the flats by Fire Service Personnel. Throughout the incident 6 breathing apparatus were used along with 3 hose reel jets and 2 main jets to extinguish the fire. Other equipment used were 3 thermal image cameras, a ladder, small tools and a dry powder extinguisher. Local crews will carry out further re-visits to the property over the next 8 hours. The cause has been recorded as accidental.
This incident has now been handed over to the owners with no further re-visits required.
