Road safety interventions and events

Our road safety team help to educate people about the dangers on our roads and how to stay safe when using them. We deliver targeted interventions and engagement events within our community in collaboration with our road safety partners.

Getting in contact

If you’d like us to discuss road safety in your community, email roadsafety@dsfire.gov.uk (mailto:roadsafety@dsfire.gov.uk) and we'll see how we can help.

Our resources

We have a range of resources and tools that we use to help engage and educate people about road safety. We use these tools to help people understand the dangers of the road.

Crash cars

Dark

We use cars that were involved in real road traffic collisions to teach lessons about road safety. We have a Mazda and a Renault Clio which we use to show the devastating effects of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Virtual reality experiences

Dark

We use virtual reality headsets to show what it’s like to be involved in a road traffic collision. This immersive education is able to simulate the consequences and allows people to consider their actions and deter risky driving behaviours.

Honda Type R

Dark

This vehicle is used in areas where young drivers congregate, such as cruises, schools or colleges, road safety events, car shows, and community safety events. The Type R is a tool that encourages young and learner drivers to engage with us on their terms.

Motorcycles

Dark

Our motorcycle team provide information and advice for motorcycle riders. As well as attending events in the community, they also run Biker Down events  (https://www.dsfire.gov.uk/safety/on-the-road/biker-down)to help keep bikers safe on the road.

Our team of advocates

Dark

Our people are our greatest resource for teaching people how to be safe on our roads. The team are highly trained, personable and have a variety of emergency service backgrounds. They bring events to life by delivering advice from first-hand experience.

Events for young drivers

Dark

We run Learn2Live events (https://www.dsfire.gov.uk/education/learn2live-events) for young drivers and their passengers across Devon. These events are aimed at students aged 16-18 who are in education. The purpose of the events is to change young people’s knowledge, attitudes, intentions and behaviour around risk-taking on the roads.
