Hello Beep here again. Wow we've looked at keeping safe outdoors when we're around a fire but now we're going to look at how to keep safe indoors. Our firefighters would be much happier knowing that you and your family are doing everything you can to prevent, which means stop a fire starting. They don't have to come and put it out.

I'd like you to look at this presentation and see the things that you can do to keep yourself safe around your home and, I'd like you to tell your grown-ups what to do too because sometimes grown-ups forget, don't they.

So, what have we got here? We've got a candle and a tea light. Nobody should leave candles or tea lights burning, make sure grown-ups put them out before leaving the room. They can use a spoon to put it out safely by turning the spoon upside down and putting it over the flame.
Oh my goodness! Look at this. If there are too many plugs in one socket your grownups must remove them. They could quite easily start a fire.

It's really important that you do not touch or play with electrical items. If you could just tell your grown-ups as well to make sure everything is switched off, and unplugged in some cases when they're not using, them that would be really really helpful.

I bet some of you have got a mobile phone or a laptop or a tablet and they can be great fun to use but they must be turned off when they finish charging. They can get very hot and could start a fire. It's important that you do not leave them charging on bedding or under pillows on top of clothes or settees. Make sure that grown-ups buy chargers or cables from the manufacturer, that means the company that makes them, as others are not always safe.

Shall we pop into the kitchen? What I like you to remember is that the kitchen is not a place to play and you shouldn't be left there by yourself. You must not switch on or use the cooker. When your grown-up is cooking if the saucepan handles are sticking out you tell your grown-up to put them to one side so that it's safe.

Do you like toast? Oh I do, with lots of butter and lots of marmalade. Maybe just remind your grown-up so when they're using the toaster that it shouldn't be underneath any cupboards all right, because it gets very very hot.

Well that was a lot of information wasn't it. But all we want is for you to be safe.

It's important that you talk to your grown-ups about how you can all prevent a fire starting and stopping someone possibly getting hurt. There are some tasks you can do now on our website called fire safety indoors and you can practice what you've learned.

Have fun and I hope to see you soon.
