3 fire appliances from Shepton Mallet, Castle Cary and Glastonbury were initially mobilised to a property fire at Cockmill Lane, East Pennard nr Shepton Mallet after receiving a call from the occupants stating their roof was on fire. Due to the nature of the incident and travel time for appliances it was decided to increase this attendance by a further fire appliance from Wells and 4x4 vehicle for access.

Crews worked well to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading any further. The fire which started accidentally after a log burner ignited insulation caused approx 30% fire damage to the roof and 20% by smoke to the remainder of the property. Crews used attack jets and ladders to extinguish, whilst constantly monitoring for hotspots using thermal imaging equipment. This incident is now complete and was brought under control at 1235hrs. There were no casualties and once the incident was complete duty of care was left with the occupants.
