Fire Control received a call from a member of the public reporting a fire in a bathroom within a hotel in Torquay. 

Control immediately mobilised 3 Fire Appliances, 1 Aerial Ladder Platform and a supporting officer. 2 Appliances came from Torquay along with the Aerial Ladder Platform and another crew came from Paignton. 

Once in attendance crews immediately got to work investigating the cause of the alarm. 

Shortly afterwards crews sent back an assistance message of 'Make Pumps 5' this was due to the fact the fire had believed to have spread through wall and cieling voids. The additional resources came from Paignton and Teignmouth.

Crews confirmed a fire in a 5 storey hotel affecting an extractor fan in a bathroom and were at work with 4 Breathing Apparatus wearers, 2 Hose Reel Jets and small tools to cut away and ensure there had been no undetected fire spread. 

Once the fire had been surrounded and extinguished crews set about using a Positive Pressure Ventilation Fan to clear smoke from the premises. 

In total this incident caused 60% fire damage to the bathroom, 50% smoke damage to the bedroom and light smoke damage to the remainder of the thirdf floor. Crews successfully extinguished the fire using; 

  • 4 Breathing Apparatus. 
  • 2  Hose Reel Jets.
  • 1 Thermal Imaging Camera 
  • Small Tools 
  • 1 Gas Monitor 
  • 1 Positive Pressure Ventilation Fan

The cause of the fire has been deemed accidental.
