Property fire
Fire Control received multiple calls for a barn on fire in the Willand area.
Crews from Cullompton, Middlemoor, Wellington, Officers and a water carrier from Bridgwater were mobilised just before 5am.
Once in attendance, crews confirmed a barn with large quantities of hay bales was well alight, and they worked with the farmer in moving live cattle from the rear of the barn.
At 05:37 - Crews at work setting into a pond with a light portable pump, farmer arranging isolation of electrics. Crews using 2x hose reel jets, 2x 51mm attack jets, and light portable pump in use
At 05:46 - Crews confirmed electrics to property has been isolated
At 06:18 - Crews continuing to control the fire spread - hay is being allowed to burn down within confines of barn - 2x 51mm attack jets, 1x hose reel jet and 1x light portable pump in use.
At 07:04 - Steady progress being made with burning contents of barn - fire still contained to within the barn. 2x main 51mm attack jets, 1x hose reel jet, 1x light portable pump in use.
At 07:35 - Farmer is now using a telehandler to move bales around the barn. Steady progress is being made, crews are at work preventing fire spread using 2x 51mm attack jets, 1x hose reel jet and 1x light portable pump.
At 08:13 - This incident is now being scaled back to 3 pumps - steady progress still being made. 2x 51mm jets, 2x hose reel jets and light portable pump in use.
** Update **
Three relief fire engines arrived at 10:00. Crews confirmed that steady progress is being made damping down. Two main jets, two hose reel jets and two light portable pumps are in use.
**Update**
This was a barn containing 1000 small bales of hay, 300 large bales of hay and 50 large bales of straw, wood chippings and animal pellet feed. Water was drawn from an open water supply. Crews believe the fire was started accidentally and have monitored the barn throughout the night.
