Property fire

The incident involved a fire in a single storey barn measuring approximately 20m x 40m containing approximately 50 tonnes of hay and 50 tonnes of straw which was well alight.   Crews donned breathing apparatus and extinguished the fire using 2 hosereel jets, 2 main jets and 2 compressed air foam jets.  Telehandlers from landowners were also used to remove hay into a field. 20% structural damage was also caused to the barn.  The cause of the fire was accidental caused by self heating bales.
