Supporting the Fire Fighters Charity
The Fire Fighters Charity (https://www.firefighterscharity.org.uk/) offers specialist lifelong support for all of the UK fire service community. They empower and encourage all fire service staff to look after their mental, physical and social wellbeing. The Fire Fighters Charity helps in many different ways. They have specialist centres and they also use digital solutions to tailor support for anyone who needs it.
Our support
We support the Fire Fighters Charity as a Service and fundraise for them during the year. Some colleagues choose to give a monthly donation but there are many other ways we get involved and fundraise. These include hosting an event like a station open day or crews doing car washes. Some of our fundraising activity is currently unable to take place due to the pandemic but we hope to resume these once it is safe to do so.
Clothing banks
Across our two counties, 43 fire stations have recycling banks for the donation of unwanted clothing. You can find details on the Fire Fighters Charity website (https://www.firefighterscharity.org.uk/get-involved/recycle-your-clothing/recycling-banks).
In 2020 - 2021 donations to these clothing banks raised £18,145 from 145 tonnes of clothing.
