Four Plymouth fire appliances plus an aerial platform ladder and water carrier were mobilised to reports of a fire within a redundant gas storage tank that was in the process of being dismantled by engineers.
Cause of fire was accidental, workmen/engineers on site, whilst dismantling the gas storage tank, are believed to have accidently ignited redundant oil waste that was still within the tank. Crews managed to extinguish the fire which was solely contained to the empty gas tank, fire at its peak covered an area of about 10 square metres.
Crews used hosereel jet to extinguish and when safe, they handed tank and area back over to onsite engineers.
