Property fire
Fire control received calls to a thatched property on fire in Porlock. Crews were mobilised from multiple stations in West Somerset and North Devon. The first appliances in attendance reported a row of terraced properties, two of which are thatched and well alight. Crews got straight to work with:
2 hose reel jets, 1 main jet, ladders and street hydrant.
As appliances arrive on scene, crews report good progress being made.
At 20:38 - Make pumps 12 message received. A further 4 fire engines were mobilised, along with the incident support unit from Martock.
At 21:42 - Crews are making steady progress using ladders, breathing apparatus, small tools and hose reel jets.
At 23:30- Fire Control mobilised crews from Ilfracombe, Appledore, South Molton, Torrington, Woolacombe, Cullompton, Burnham-on-Sea, Street, Chard to provide relief cover for crews working at incident.
At 00:12 - Crews are making good progress in stripping thatch from the property. 2x breathing apparatus and hose reel jet in use.
At 02:17 - Changeover of relief crews completed, 1x breathing apparatus, ladders, 1x 45mm jet and 2 hose reel jets in use.
At 04:00 - Fire Control mobilsed crews from Hartland, Braunton, Tiverton and Chulmleigh to provide relief cover for crews working at incident.
At 04:21 - Crews making steady progress, 2x breathing apparatus, 2x 45mm jet, 1x hose reel jet, ladders and safe working at height and confined space (SHACS) in use.
At 06:48 - Crews at work making up equipment. 1x hose reel jet and thermal image camera still in use.
At 12:22 - Crews cooling hot spots using a hose reel jet and thermal image camera.
At 13:57 - One pumping appliance remains at the scene.
At 14:32 - Remaining crews are working to dampen down hot spots with a 1 hr triple jet extension ladder.
At 15:38 - Crews confirmed that the fire involved a chimney that had spread to the thatched roof. 2 properties were severely damaged by fire. Crews used a total of 4x breathing apparatus, 3x hose reel jets, 3x 45mm jets, ladders, thermal image camera and small tools to extinguish the fire. This incident has been handed over to Porlock Estates team.
