Road traffic collision
The driver of a car had a lucky escape yesterday evening after a collision with a building resulted in the vehicle coming to rest on its side, in a 2m deep trench, on St Helens Walk in Plymouth, trapping the driver. 3 fire appliances from our Crownhill and Camels Head stations in Plymouth attended, after Ambulance requested our assistance, along with the Police.
Crews were on scene within minutes of being mobilised and set to work stabilising the vehicle first in order for Ambulance paramedics to assess the casualty and then formulate a plan to safely extricate them. Lighting, ladders, hydraulic cutters/spreaders and small tools were used to access the vehicle and casualty, before releasing them on to a stretcher and into the hands of paramedics, whereby there were conveyed to hospital via a land ambulance. Crews then made the scene safe, before leaving duty of care for the incident with the Police. The incident was brought under control at 0016hrs and is now complete.
