Property fire
Two fire appliances and an aerial ladder platform from Yeovil were mobilised to a property fire. We received multiple calls after a bang was heard in the roof of a property and this was shortly followed by smoke.
On arrival of the first crews, they confirmed smoke was issuing from the roof, shortly followed by an assistance message for further appliances, as fire quickly took hold and crews prepared to enter the property. A further three fire appliances from Sherborne (Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service), Martock and Crewkerne were mobilised, followed by a Command Support Unit from Street, as well as supporting officers.
Update - This incident is now complete and was brought under control at 11:25hrs. Crews worked well to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading to the neighbouring property. The cause was accidental and the loud bang heard at the time of the call was confirmed to come from a gas boiler in the loft space.
Eight firefighters in breathing apparatus worked to extinguish the fire using two hose reel jets and one covering jet. We also used thermal imaging equipment in the roof spaces of both properties to check for fire spread and hotspots.
The aerial ladder platform was used externally to prevent further damage to the roof and make it safe. Once crews were satisfied the fire was out and the area was safe - duty of care was left with the occupants of both properties.
There were no casualties and these are the full and final details.
