Fire control received a few calls to a derelict building on fire in Thornbury near Holsworthy.

Control mobilised 3 fire appliances from Holsworthy, Hatherleigh and Torrington along with an officer. Fire control also mobilised an Aerial ladder platform from Barnstaple due to information passed by callers that flames were issuing from the roof.

Once on scene crews confirmed 1 derelict building well alight with flames issuing from the roof. Crews sent a Make pumps 5 request and requested an environmental protection unit. Appliances were sent from Bude (Cornwall FRS) and Okehampton along with the incident command unit from Ilfracombe along with 2 further officers. The EPU was mobilised from North Tawton along with a support pump.

At 04:03 a water bowser was requested, this was also sent from Barnstaple. A short while later, crews then requested the Welfare unit which was mobilised from Crediton. 

Update at 05:00 - the incident has now been sectorised into 2 sectors. Both sectors are currently firefighting defensively. 

Update at 05:30 - steady progress is being to bring fire under control. Crews currently defensively firefighting using 2 45mm attack jets to extinguish fire.

Update at 07:00 - steady progress is continuing to be made. Resources on scene have started to return to home station. Crews are still fire fighting defensively with hazardous materials, environmental and analytical risk assessments taking place. A 1 pump relief has been requested which has been mobilised from Hartland. On scene crews have advised local residents of Woodacott cross to keep their windows and doors closed and a road closure between Woodacott cross and Ley cross will be in place for the majority of the day.

Update 11.35am

The building was 80% damaged by fire and 20% by heat and water. The cause is currently undetermined. No reported injuries. Appliances have left the scene but a crew will revisit later this afternoon.
