Eight fire engines and specialist appliances are attending a fire in a workshop at a farm in High Bickington.

The workshop is well alight and contains diesel and oil.

Firefighters are using water jets to prevent the fire from escalating.

Nearby residents are advised to keep their windows and doors closed due to a thick plume of black smoke.

Update 3.15pm

Nine crews are tackling the fire with six main water jets, using foam to protect nearby properties at the boundary of the incident and an Environmental Protection Unit crew are containing the run-off diesel and protecting a nearby water course.

Update 8pm

Steady progress being made with two jets damping down hotspots. Three crews currently in attendance.

Update 1.30am 26 October

All visible hotspots extinguished. Crews leaving the incident and will revisit in the morning.
