Fire Control received several calls reporting a rail embankment fire off the A358 at Sampford Brett, near Williton.

Upon arrival, the Williton crews requested two further fire engines from Minehead and Wiveliscombe confirming a fire that had spread to adjacent fields affecting approximately 100 square metres.  Fire crews were at work with 1 hose reel jet and attack jet.

Fire crews then requested a fourth fire engine from Taunton and a water bowser from Exeter.

Fire crews liaised with West Somerset Railway to gain access to the railway line to extinguish the fire.  Arrangements were also made to temporarily cease firefighting activities so the 2 last trains from Crowcombe and Williton could run to return passengers.

Fire crews extinguished the fire at 19:02 hrs, the cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.
