Fire control received a call reporting a fire within a grain dryer this afternoon.
One fire engine from our Shepton Mallet station and one from our Wells station were mobilised.
On arrival crews confirmed that approximately 25 tonnes of grain was being emptied onto a tractor and trailor, under fire service supervision. This then allowed crews to work with one hose reel jet, one triple extension ladder and one thermal imaging camera to ensure any hot spots were cooled down to prevent any further fire spread.
The cause of the fire was accidental self heating of the grain.
