2 fire appliances from South Molton and Barnstaple, together with a water carrier from Barnstaple, were mobilised following a call from the driver of a tractor that had caught fire whilst being driven down a country lane.

On arrival of South Molton crew they confirmed that the tractor was well alight on the highway and set to work with 2 firefighters in breathing apparatus using a main jet and compressed air foam. During this time they also confirmed that 300litres of diesel had escaped and entered a drain leading to a nearby water course and a series of ponds. Crews made good and steady progress extinguishing the fire and protecting the surroundings using environmental packs. They managed to stem the fuel at the first pond and contain excess fuel using the packs. The Environment Agency has been made aware and equipment left in place to soak up the diesel.
