elfs - early learning fire safety

Unfortunately, in light of the ongoing Covid-19 situation we will not be able to visit schools, including delivery of elf boxes, until further guidance is given and restrictions lifted.

The restrictions include all fire service personnel and are intended to ensure that all our stations remain fully operational.

However, we do have some video clips which are currently available on our website to help deliver early years fire safety and primary fire safety.

There are also downloadable resources on the Cornwall Fire Service website.

Elfs, (which stands for early learning fire safety) is an exciting, fun filled box that provides teachers and early years practitioners with tools to educate children, aged between two and five years old, in key safety skills.

It includes a teachers pack, books, games, toys and firefighter outfits for role play.

The resource is key to helping promote a healthy and positive awareness of the fire and rescue service and the role of a firefighter, whilst addressing some of the main areas within the Early Years Foundation Stages' (EYFS).

  • Personal social and emotional development
  • Communication language and literacy
  • Knowledge and understanding of the world

The resource is built around seven characters, each focusing on a specific safety message:

  • Road safety
  • Fire plans
  • Stop, drop and roll!
  • Good and bad fires
  • Hot and cold
  • Matches and lighters
  • Smoke alarms
